SACRALIZATION OF LUMBAR VERTEBRAE-ITS ANATOMICAL, EMBRYOLOGICAL AND CLINICAL PERSPECTIVE

Abstract :
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height: normal;mso-layout-grid-align:none;text-autospace:none"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal"><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"; color:black">BACKGROUND:</span></b><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-size:14.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman","serif";mso-bidi-font-style:italic">Verteal column have very important role in weight transmission and to maintain posture of our body. Stress and strain of verteal column are increasing from above downward. Lumbosacral region have more stress and strain and low back pain is very common in this region. </span><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-size:14.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman","serif";color:black">Sacrum consists of five fused sacral verteae. These are fused to provide strength and stability tothe pelvis and transmit the weight of the body to the pelvic girdle through the sacro-iliac joints. The verteal .Lumbosacral transitional verteae (LSTV) are congenitalanomalies of the lumbosacral region, which includes sacralisation of fifth lumbar vertea and lumbarisation .Low back pain is<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height: normal;mso-layout-grid-align:none;text-autospace:none"><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif";color:black">quite a common ailment affecting about 80% of the population in their life time. This abnormality can bediagnosed by plain radiography.</span><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif";mso-bidi-font-style: italic">Sacralization leads to narrowing of disc space between L5 and S1, so there is higher chance of disc herniation and disc degeneration (9). Medical College in The State of Jammu & Kashmir.<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height: normal;mso-layout-grid-align:none;text-autospace:none"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal"><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">OBSERVATIONS AND RESULTS:</span></b><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";color:black">In the present study of 30 adult human sacra 21 were male and 9 were female sacra.Out of 30 sacral bones 3 sacra showed sacralisation of fifth lumbar verteae</span><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal"><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">.CONCLUSION:</span></b><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"; color:black">Knowledge of sacralisation is not only enlightening for the orthopaedic surgeons, also vital for theClinical Anatomists, Radiologists, Forensic experts, Morphologists, Architectures and Anthropologists. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
